Beyond the Training Contract: Committee opportunities
At Machins we have three committees that welcome and encourage involvement from all members of staff, and I am lucky enough to be a member of all three.
The Social Committee is responsible for planning, organising and overseeing social events and activities throughout the year, including our annual Christmas party. We also run a number of smaller social events across the year and these all create opportunities for staff to interact and engage with one another in a fun and informal way.
Our Mental Health Committee serves an important purpose as we advocate for the importance of mental health awareness at work. We highlight the importance of mental well-being by organising events and initiatives that teach us to take time out to nurture our metal health. Examples this year have included lunchtime walks, coffee mornings and a ‘wear green to work’ day in support of mental health week.
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee is the newest of the three committees. The committee is committed to promoting and advancing diversity, equality, and inclusion within Machins. The Committee aims to create a more diverse and inclusive environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and have equal opportunities for growth and success. Some of the events we have organised this year include a Machins Iftaar during Ramadan and Q&A events for Black History Month.
Joining one of Machins’ Committees can offer numerous advantages for both personal growth and the growth of the firm. The committees provide an excellent opportunity for internal networking as they are made up of individuals from various departments that have been bought together by their common interest. Committee involvement case raise your profile within the firm as you become more visible to the wider firm from the initiatives held by the committees, which again can be extremely beneficial particularly for trainees embarking on a career at Machins. Committees often require you to research and learn about new topics, industries, or aspects of the company’s operations which can be intellectually stimulating and help you stay updated on social and industry trends. Your contributions in committees can have a meaningful impact in Machins’ success, whether through process improvements, strategic initiatives or simply bringing colleagues together. Playing a part in achieving these goals can be personally fulfilling and my personal experience is that joining committees is a proactive way to enrich your professional life, build new skills, and make a positive impact at Machins. I see involvement in firm committees as an investment in my career that will pay off in both personal and professional growth.
