Hospice of St Francis Running Club
The Running Club meet weekly on Wednesdays at 9.30am for a donation of £3 per week. All proceeds go to The Hospice of St Francis.
Founded over a decade ago by Paul Owen, Machins partner and family law specialist, the running club has quietly become a force for good – raising almost £24,000 to date for The Hospice of St Francis.

About the Club
Paul, who has completed over 100 marathons and authored two books on running, started the club in January 2014 with a simple idea: bring people together to enjoy running while supporting a good cause.
Since the start, over 300 runners have taken part with around 30 runners meeting every Wednesday, exploring a mix of road and trail routes in and around Berkhamsted and Tring, improving fitness and enjoying plenty of laughs along the way.
There’s no joining fee – just a simple tradition: each week, runners pop a small donation of £3 for the Hospice into the boot of Paul’s car. These contributions have added up to vital funds supporting the Hospice’s care.
Who Can Join?
Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, all are welcome. The sessions are designed to make sure that every runner is fully part of the planned run whatever their level of fitness. The emphasis is on fun, encouragement and having a great workout.
The sessions are broken down into different efforts, with all runners regrouping at the end of each in order to keep everyone together. One of the founding aims of the club is to be inclusive, appreciate that runners are all at varying levels of fitness, to recognise and support that and to meet the needs of each and everyone.
