Key responsibilities

You will play a key role in supporting the effective financial and operational management of the firm, including:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day running of the Finance department and supporting the smooth delivery of financial operations across the Firm.
  • Managing and supporting a small Accounts team, providing leadership, guidance and support across a range of finance activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Solicitors Accounts Rules and other regulatory requirements, maintaining high standards of financial governance and control.
  • Overseeing client and office accounts, reconciliations, financial reporting and the annual SAR audit process.
  • Supporting budgeting, financial planning, management reporting for the partners as well as the preparation of annual financial statements and liaison with external accountants.
  • Monitoring financial controls, systems and processes, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
  • Managing the monthly payroll process and working closely with the HR team to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
  • Working alongside the senior leadership team to support the wider operational and financial management of the firm.
  • Managing supplier relationships and key service contracts, helping to ensure value and effective service delivery.
  • Promoting strong financial discipline and compliance, while ensuring departmental priorities and deadlines are met.

About you

We are looking for:

  • AAT qualified or part-qualified accountant with relevant practical experience.
  • Strong finance experience, including bookkeeping, financial controls and accounting processes.
  • Experience of working within a law firm finance function with an understanding of legal cashiering would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules and their practical application.
  • Previous experience managing, supervising or supporting finance or accounts team members would be desirable, but not essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain strong financial controls.
  • Experience using accounting systems and financial management software.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the firm.
  • Familiarity with legal aid accounting processes would be beneficial, although not essential.
