About this event

If someone has been left out of a will or does not benefit from an estate under the intestacy rules, or feels that reasonable financial provision has not been made for them, then they may make a claim against the estate under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975.

The latest in our series of seminars looking at different aspects of wills, inheritance and estate disputes will be focusing on claims under the Inheritance Act and offering practical advice on both bringing and defending such claims.

The expert lawyers from our private client and dispute resolution teams will be providing guidance on the various aspects of claims under the 1975 Act and the factors that parties involved in such disputes will need to consider. Some key areas we will be covering will be:

  • Who can bring a claim
  • What the claimant can seek and powers of the Court to make awards
  • The factors the Court will consider
  • The claim process
  • Practical steps and issues to consider whether making or defending a claim

The presentation will run from 1-2pm followed by an online Q&A session for anyone wishing to ask questions.
