House prices rose by 10.2% in the year to June 2014, according to figures from the Office for National Statistics.

Prices in England rose by 10.7%. The figure was 6% in Scotland, 4.9% in Northern Ireland and 3.5% in Wales.

The survey showed that house prices rose strongly in most parts of the UK, but the highest growth was in London where the annual increase was 19.3%.

Without taking London and the South East house price increases into account, the average UK property rose by 6.3% in value.

The figures also showed that first time buyers were paying 12% more for a house in June this year than in June 2013; prices paid by existing owners rose by 9.5%.
