Special Guardianship Orders
A Special Guardianship Order is an order appointing a person or persons to be a child’s Special Guardian. Applications may be made by an individual or jointly by two or more people to become Special Guardians. We can help you to apply for a Special Guardianship Order and guide you through the process.
We are able to advise, assist and represent you in respect of either making an application for a Special Guardianship Order or Proceedings where you are being considered as a Special Guardian, such as during Care Proceedings where you have been put forward by the child's parents as a potential alternative carer.
In limited circumstances Legal Aid may be available but only if the Legal Aid Agency's specific requirements are met and is likely to be assessed based on your income and the merits of your case.
In some cases the Local Authority will asssit with the costs, if they are supporting your Application and/or have made a recommendation that you make such a Application and/or they have undertaken a postiive assessment of you, within Care Proceedings.
