Family Law
We know that the breakdown of a relationship can be very painful for the entire family. Difficult decisions have to be made whether you are married or living together. We are able to advise on:

We have an experienced and dedicated team of friendly, approachable family lawyers who are used to answering the complex questions which can arise. Some of the most common questions with which we can help are listed below.

  • Can I have or can I avoid a divorce?
  • How are we going to look after the children?
  • How do we settle the financial arrangements?
  • What is mediation and how will it help us?
  • What will happen to the home?
  • Who will pay the mortgage?
  • How much maintenance am I entitled to?
  • How much maintenance will I have to pay?

We will look at the circumstances of you and your partner to help answer those questions. We can provide expert advice and assistance in order for you to reach an agreement with your partner. We can also put you in contact with other agencies who may be able to help you.

If agreements cannot be reached, we have the expertise to guide you through the legal procedures involved. We aim to work with you to obtain the best possible outcome for you and your family.

Our team of specialists includes members of the Law Society's Family Law Panel, the Law Society's Children Panel and the Solicitors Family Law Association. We have specific expertise in cases where there have been accusations of neglect or child abuse. The team as a whole has been recognised by the Legal Services Commission through the grant of a public funding franchise in this area.

Liz Oldham is the head of our family law department. For further legal advice, please contact her team on 01582 514315 or e-mail family@machins.co.uk.
